In this section you can find out about how we teach Science at Down Hall.

.As a school, we follow the National Curriculum science programme of study. We feel a step by step approach is vital with all areas of learning built upon as the children progress through the school, ensuring all children have exposure to learning they will encounter in later phases. We believe science should be experiential with EYFS stage using practical experiences that enable the children to use scientific terminology and in later years an emphasis on first hand observations and learning experiences.

We have a range of scientific equipment which helps us achieve our aim of practical, hands-on science learning. We make good use of the school’s large grounds to explore habitats and living things in our environment as well. We are developing links with Sweyne Park Secondary School who are able to provide us with specialist science equipment upon request and offer support in planning investigative science.
